Nightclub 2 Step” Class

By the end of the 6th class session, the students will be able to:

  1. Identify Nightclub music
  2. Execute frame while doing Nightclub step and turns
  3. Do basic Nightclub steps in rhythm to the music
  4. Gentlemen will lead Nightclub step and turns
  5. Perform more than four different turns

Expectations for the classes:

  • Please know that you will change partners often in each class.
  • In classes 2 – 6:  The class will start with review and practice.  The second part of the class will be new turns.
  • The Nightclub is a bigger dance, meaning it takes more space than many other dances.
  • We will proceed through the material as the majority of the class progress.
  • A video will be made at the end of each and uploaded to the Senior Center website.

Course content

  • Demonstration of basic steps and turns to music.
  • Slow-quick-quick or Quick-quick-slow or 1&2-3&4    ALL THE SAME IN THE END!
  • Basic steps for man’s, start with weight on R foot
  • Basic steps for lady start with weight on L foot
  • Frame, why it is critical and how to execute it
  • Basic steps as a couple – start with a sway to be sure both are on the correct feet
  • Lady’s inside turns L & R or "Gates"
  • Man’s outside turns L & R or "Gates" demo
  • Pre-lead to turns – open up lady
  • Left turning basic, switching sides, or Run down the line
  • Right turning basic, switching sides, or Run down the line
  • Demos: run down the line from closed position, from open position
  • Left-turning basic with lady’s under-arm turn, switching sides or Turn down the line
  • Man’s inside turn w/ lady’s outside turn ending in a free spin
  • Man’s underarm turn, switching sides
  • Lady’s outside turn – man’s inside turn, switching sides
  • Demo of several of the above moves - March 5th
  • Open to sweetheart to close x 2
  • Man’s walk-through with RDL – catch R to R
  • Shoulder catch switching sides 
  • Demo of above moves - March 12th
  • Elbow catch switching sides

Combination (complex) turns may be taught.
